Why I built justlnk.tk, and problems with other URL shorteners.

Yeah, another URL shortener. But why?, won’t you ask?

Well, relax this was meant to be an educative project but meanwhile exploring what I could do I figured out a few problems with other URL shorteners.

Though few of them are unusual but isn’t it like that we should care? Yep. Starting with first one many shortening sites use Node.js or some servers to redirect URL. That’s kind of great. But a cheap URL shortener can be created with the whole static thing also. What do you think 404 pages are for then, huh?

Except for the whole social media linking using 404 pages is a great idea for URL shorteners

So, if you’re in, we must talk about the second thing I discovered.

Most of the URL shorteners just don’t ensure complete security. Yes you heard that right ! Security. When a URL is redirected to http rather than https there is a chance that your ISP or attackers at coffee-shop Wi-Fi might intercept your connection then they must at least warn the user what they don’t do. Do they? But with justlnk.tk I tried to fix this thing.

The third one is about using 🍟(yep. emojis) :-)

We can’t even put emojis in URL shorteners :-(

But wait… I fixed that too with justlnk.tk 🎉(rejoice everywhere) .’-)

Great? isn’t it.

Note: To use emojis as aliases use their unicode format example: http://justlnk.tk/%F0%9F%93%A6

Enjoy your day !
